MultiColor Monday: Michael "Slim" McGarvey

This week, I am honoring and celebrating a dear friend from high school, Michael “Slim” McGarvey.

About MultiColor Monday: As most of you know, all writers need regular inspiration. On the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, I’ll share information about people who inspire me by their writing and their lives. The series is called Multi-Color Monday to reflect the beauty and diversity of God’s children. My hope is that you, too, will be blessed and inspired by those you meet here.

About Slim:

Slim enjoyed a partying lifestyle for many years, full of drinking, drugs, and relationships that didn’t last. Then Jesus saved him, set him free from alcoholism, and blessed him with a life he never thought possible. He’ll be the first to say it wasn’t easy…but it’s definitely worth it.

He started a Facebook group titled “Dear Slim” to share daily words of hope, encouragement and wisdom. He wants to help others who are where he’s been, and inspire all of us to reach farther and climb higher. He also takes beautiful and inspiring photos, which he adds to most of his posts. From his Facebook page “about” summary:

“Releasing good news and interesting thoughts daily. Also will answer any and all questions to the best of my limited ability. I hope you join. Slim”

For those of you on Facebook, check out and join his group, Dear Slim. For those on Twitter, find Slim at @DearSlimLife, where he also shares his daily messages. If you’re not on Facebook or Twitter, well, maybe we can encourage Slim to start a blog.

How Slim inspires me:

Slim is faithful to post regularly – daily – unless he lets his readers know he’s taking a break. His messages are short, hopeful, and full of practical wisdom. I can’t tell you how many days I woke up in some type of funk, and his message lifted my spirits. I’ve laughed, cried, and praised God…sometimes all for the same message! The Lord blessed Slim with gifts of communication and encouragement, and he’s using them. His life has been redeemed and transformed, and he’s excited to share what Jesus did for him with all who will listen.

Prayer for Slim:

Lord, bless Slim with joy, peace, and a heart so full of love he is compelled to share wherever he goes. Bless his relationships with steadfast contentment. Pour out your grace and mercy over his life, his family, and all that concerns him. Continue to lead people to Dear Slim who need You, and continue to give Slim guidance and direction for every message. Thank you that your timing in Slim’s life is perfect, for everything, always. Give him wisdom for every choice he makes, and keep him on the path of your perfect will.

My “favorite” Slim post:

I’ve been blessed by so many it’s hard to select just one. So I’ll share his post from November 3rd that is typical “Slim wisdom”…and closes with his trademark “Good On Ya”.

Good Morning!
Never regret the past, because the past is what has made you who you are today. Now if you don't like who you are today, then the only thing to regret is not changing that. People we are never too old or even too young to change, but maybe just too set in our ways to want to make the effort. Give it a try it will make you and the ones you love very happy. Believe me, it is worth all of the pain, sweat and tears, so why not give it a try today? Good On Ya!

Thank you, Slim, for your continued inspiration. You are making a difference, never doubt that.

And, Good On Ya!

MULTI-COLOR MONDAY CHALLENGE:
If you need inspiration today, check out Slim’s writing on Facebook at Dear Slim, or on Twitter at @DearSlimLife.

Also, take a few moments to thank someone who inspires you. You’ll both be blessed!
