Fitness Friday: It's Not About Perfection

We finished our first 10 days, and with great success! Of course, Don lost more weight than I did, and it's more noticeable on him. It's not fair...and any wives who have dieted with their husbands know exactly what I mean.

But, hey, we are gluten-free and sugar free, and our eating habits are changing. For me, I've stopped my daily snacking just to have something crunchy, and that's huge for me! We are both still detoxing so sometimes it's rough, but we are still moving forward. I'm very thankful for where we are on the journey.

It's a moment by moment journey at times. We'll be watching a movie while enjoying our salads (did you ever notice how many people eat pizza in the movies??) and before we can fast forward a commercial with a big juicy burger flashes on the screen. Or we go out and drive by a bazillion restaurants with appetizing signs and smells...and memories. Can't escape it!

Let's face it, our culture is very food-centric, and for the most part it's not healthy food. Trying to change bad eating habits is definitely an uphill swim, sometimes against a raging current of fries, chips, and cheese (my personal go-to's). I have to stop here - just writing this is stirring up the taste buds!

Confession: we had a treat the other night. Not too bad, but strayed from our "plan". We then had a choice: get on a roll and continue to make wrong choices; or purposely make a better choice in the next moment and change direction. On purpose, we chose to get back on track the next day.

It's never about perfection, it's about the direction we're headed. Don's and my greatest success is not the weight we lost but that we didn't give up with one bad choice. Success is continuing to get up and keep going on your original path no matter how many times you stumble.

As you go into the day, purpose to let go of yesterday's wrong choices, and embrace the opportunity to make better choices today. Don't give up, you.can.do.this!

“Forget the former things;
    do not dwell on the past.
19
See, I am doing a new thing!
    Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland."
(Isaiah 43:18-19)

In what area of eating are you most tempted to give up and give in? How can you overcome the temptation?
