Blessed by Diversity: The Journey Writers

Greetings, y'all, on this beautiful MultiColor Monday!

Don and I recently joined a church in our area, Journey Church. We had been searching for a while, and settled at Journey because we are blessed by the worship, the teaching, and the hearts of the people we've met. We both found areas in which to serve, and groups in which to "connect" at a deeper level.

My Connect group is The Journey Writers.
It's a small and wonderfully eclectic group of writers who each have a message God has given them to share. The stated purpose of the group is build community, provide accountability, help with goal setting, encourage growth both spiritually and as a writer, and provide workshops to critique each other's work.

The Journey Writers

I've found this group to be all that and more! From the first email I received, I have been welcomed and accepted by everyone. Our group reminds me of how Paul encouraged us to be in Philippians 2:1-4
  • Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
It's not about being alike on the outside, but alike on the inside.

And we are definitely different on the outside! Different backgrounds, personalities, writing styles, and ages. Check out our blog at The Journey Writerswhere we all write on the same topic (topic changes every few weeks), and see how diverse we are in style, perspective, and life experiences. But we all share a love for Jesus and a desire to honor Him with our words - we are like-minded and one in spirit, alike on the inside.

If you had asked me to choose 7-8 women from a crowded room who I'd like to join with to form a writer's group, I don't know how I could have chosen. And I'm quite sure I would have had different "qualifications", because I don't always see with God's heart and with God's eyes.

So I'm very thankful God made the choice for me. I am very blessed to be called one of The Journey Writers. I hope you are blessed when you visit our blog and read what the Lord has given us to share.

TODAY'S CHALLENGE: Where have you missed opportunities and blessings because of differences between you and others? Ask the Lord to help you look beneath the surface of those around you and see them from His perspective.
